CREATED DURING MY JUNIOR FALL FOR A MOTION DESIGN CLASS, THIS PROJECT WAS INSPIRED BY STAN BRAKHAGE’S CONCEPT OF PURE PERCEPTION. THE ASSIGNMENT CHALLENGED US TO DESIGN AN ABSTRACT TITLE SEQUENCE USING ONLY OUR KINETIC FORM LIBRARY. I CHOSE IT (2017) FOR ITS PSYCHOLOGICAL TENSION AND METAPHORICAL DEPTH, AIMING TO EVOKE FEAR AND DISORIENTATION THROUGH SHIFTING SHAPES, CONTRASTING COLOR AND BLACK-AND-WHITE CLIPS, AND UNPREDICTABLE MOTION. THE FINAL PIECE EXPLORES HOW ABSTRACTION CAN MIRROR THE EMOTIONAL UNDERCURRENTS OF A NARRATIVE, ENGAGING VIEWERS IN A VISCERAL, INTERPRETIVE EXPERIENCE.

CREATED DURING MY JUNIOR FALL FOR A MOTION DESIGN CLASS, THIS PROJECT FOCUSED ON TELLING A STORY PURELY THROUGH VISUAL LANGUAGE RATHER THAN AUDIO. USING A COMBINATION OF TEXT ANIMATION, VISUAL EFFECTS, AND TYPOGRAPHY, I CRAFTED AN EXPERIMENTAL MONOLOGUE INSPIRED BY BARBIE (2023). THE GOAL WAS TO EVOKE EMOTION, NARRATIVE, AND TONE THROUGH MOVEMENT, FONTS, COLOR, AND TYPE WITHOUT ANY SPOKEN WORDS. THE FINAL PIECE EXPLORES THEMES OF IDENTITY, FEMININITY, AND SELF-DISCOVERY, REFLECTING THE FILM'S CORE MESSAGES THROUGH A VISUAL-ONLY LENS.

CREATED DURING MY JUNIOR FALL FOR A MOTION DESIGN CLASS, THIS PROJECT FOCUSED ON DESIGNING AND ANIMATING A LOOPING CHARACTER USING ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR AND AFTER EFFECTS. FROM EARLY THUMBNAIL SKETCHES AND MOODBOARDS TO STORYBOARDS AND MOTION PLANNING, I DEVELOPED A UNIQUE CHARACTER WITH A DISTINCT PERSONALITY AND VISUAL STYLE. THE ANIMATION INCORPORATES AT LEAST SIX MOVING ELEMENTS AND WAS BUILT TO LOOP SEAMLESSLY, UTILIZING TECHNIQUES LIKE KEYFRAMING, PUPPETING, AND PARENTING. THE FINAL CHARACTER LOOP WAS INSPIRED BY DUCKS THAT RAISED DURING COVID AND THEIR VERY UNIQUE WAY OF MIMICKING HUMAN ACTION (OFC WITH A LITTLE IMAGINATION ADDED!)

CREATED DURING MY JUNIOR FALL FOR A MOTION DESIGN CLASS, THIS PROJECT FOCUSED ON THE CHALLENGE OF VISUAL STORYTELLING IN A SHORT-FORM DIGITAL FORMAT. I DESIGNED AN 15-20 SECOND LOOPING ANIMATION TO ACCOMPANY A SPOTIFY SONG OF MY CHOOSING, WITH THE GOAL OF ENHANCING LISTENER ENGAGEMENT THROUGH MOTION. INSPIRED BY THE NARRATIVE, VISUAL STYLE, AND ARTIST BACKGROUND, I DEVELOPED A CONDENSED, SEAMLESSLY LOOPING “MUSIC VIDEO” THAT REFLECTS GRACIE ABRAMS SONG THATS SO COOL. THROUGH MOODBOARDING, STORYBOARDING, AND ANIMATING, I BROUGHT THE AUDIO TO LIFE USING COLOR, TYPE, IMAGES, SHAPE AND MOVEMENT TO CREATE AN EMOTIONALLY RESONANT, MOBILE-FIRST EXPERIENCE.
